Gangster Miniatures SessionWe started off with Jim Dirmaier running his gangster miniatures in old Chicago. He had some truly spectacular scratch-built painted scenery which recreated part of a city block, including Schofield's Flower Shop, Genna Bros. Moving Company and Moe's Market. Civilians were going about their business walking or driving about peacefully, when all heck broke loose. The Mancini gang, led by "Mumbles" Mancini roared into the neighborhood in two cars, with three guys in each car, headed for the Genna Bros. Moving Company. They had received a tip that the Malone Gang was receiving a shipment of beer. With the ongoing gang war, that shipment had to be either taken or destroyed. The Malone Gang, meanwhile, had a careful watch on the neighborhood while they received and hid the beer for later distribution. Federal Prohibition Agents Turner and Barnes had also heard about this shipment and arrived seconds before the Mancini gang, pulling into the Genna Bros. yard and placing the Malone Gang under arrest. Unfortunately, "Lefty" Louie, one of the Malone gang's lookouts on a nearby fire escape, was a little hard of hearing and ended up ventilating both federal agents before they could subdue any of the gangsters or confiscate the beer. Meanwhile, the Mancini gang ran into some trouble, literally, when Vinnie "The Mole" Vinichi (driving the second car) ran into a Kodak truck while trying to turn into the street with the Genna Bros. Moving Company. Vinnie was seriously hurt, while his passengers "Knuckles" Tortelli and "Fats" Franconni were hardly scratched (though "Fats" did take a light wound, which meant that he was now moving even more slowly than usual). The lead car, with "Mumbles", was fired upon by "Studs" from the Malone Gang, who stepped out of Moe's Market to open up with a tommy gun. Civilians were diving for cover by now, including Moe, who ended up in a pickle barrel. With the whole Mancini gang unloading from their vehicles, there wasn't much to save Moe's Market which sustained severe damage from sustained automatic and shotgun fire. "Studs" was slain in the crossfire and unfortunately Moe's pickle barrel was also hit a few too many times, resulting in the first civilian casualty. "Mumbles", "The Turk" and "Slugs" unloaded from the first car and started trading fire with members of the Malone gang, including "Lefty" Louie who by now was on the roof above Moe's Market. After a vicious exchange of fire, "The Turk" and "Mumbles" were down, along with several of the Malone gang. "Lefty" was exacting a terrible toll from his vantage and ended up knocking off "Knuckles" as well, but not before he himself was seriously wounded. The gangs were down to two members each. "Big Mike" hid in the Genna Bros. yard for the Malone Gang, keeping an eye on the beer truck, which was now behind the wooden doors of the garage. The seriously wounded "Lefty" kept watch from the roof. For the former Mancini gang (now the Franconni gang), "Fats" was slowly making his way up the inside stairs of Moe's Market, heading for the roof, while Vinnie "The Mole" headed for the outside Fire Escape. "Fats" and "The Mole" got to the outside ladder to the roof around the same time and "Fats" convinced "The Mole" to head on up. Vinnie unfortunately took more than a few rounds from "Lefty" as he got to the top of the stairs and fell back down to the fire escape. Having had "enuff a dis", "Fats" climbed back down, careful to stay outside of sight from the roof. He made his way to where he could shoot the garage with the beer truck and decided to make sure that the Malone gang at least lost their profits. After unloading a full magazine at the wooden doors in front of the truck, "Fats" was amazed to see two things happen that changed his career. First of all, "Big Mike" was getting nervous inside the garage and decided to run for the cover of the abandoned police car in the yard, since his shotgun couldn't reach "Fats" from the garage. "Fats" mowed him down, evening the odds with one gang member left on each side. "Lefty" then decided that he couldn't let "Fats" destroy the beer truck. Seriously wounded, he leaned way over the edge of the roof to try to shoot straight down at "Fats". Unfortunately, he lost his balance and instead landed on the sidewalk right next to "Fats", a fall which he did not survive. "Fats" Franconni, finding himself the only guy left alive with a gun, headed on over and hijacked the beer truck, giving himself a nice profit and a good start on the new Franconni Gang. We'll see how long that lasts... Of six gangsters involved on each side, only "Fats" survived. Neither of the Prohibition Agents survived. And you thought D&D was bloody! :-) Afterwards, Jim packed up his stuff and we had dinner. It was revealed that Caleb and I had never played "Magic", so Neil and Greg took it upon themselves to teach us. They taught us well enough that I somehow managed to win our four-way game (I blame Greg's design of my deck). A fun game, which we plan to play again occasionally. That pretty much wrapped the session and the evening. |
